Gainesville brought us a Pep-Boys call out and the Gatornats to start off the 2023 season with a bang. Josh Hart walked away with the cash prize from the All-Star Top Fuel Call out. But Mike Salinas was not done with Final rounds for the weekend, lining up against Steve Torrence to decide who gets the Wally.
Torrence was 3-2 against Salinas in prior final rounds and pulled away with the starting line advantage. Mike and the Scrappers car made up the difference by 330 feet and held the lead the rest of the way. Winning by a very close margin of 16 inches. New sponsors coming on board towards the end of last season and multiple wins under his belt, Mike Salinas has some serious momentum going.
For Funny car, Matt Hagan and J.R Todd squared off once again. Hagan has the advantage in prior events, the two are now tied for wins in Final Rounds.
Pulling away from the start line together, it was over at the 500 foot mark when Todd’s funny car started to move around. Matt walk’s away with his 44th career victory and a repeat win in Gainesville. Congrats to Matt and everyone at TSR on a great start to the season.
