Sunday 9/18 at the Pep Boys Nationals, Austin Prock and Justin Ashley lineup for the first Top Fuel final round in the Countdown. Ashley grabs the starting line advantage by .024 of a second. Prock was in the lead by the 330ft mark but they are dead even at 1/8th of a mile. Official MOV is .0048 seconds, at 320-330 miles per hour, Prock won his second Wally by two feet. Prior to Maple Grove he was out of the top 10, but those two feet translated to moving up to 6th.
With Five races left to decide the season Winner, the top Five in the standings are as follows:
Justin Ashley with 2170 points
Brittany Force -9 points behind
Mike Salinas -10
Antron Brown -54
Steve Torrence – 56
For Funny Car, another final round for Robert Height was far from surprising but more than welcome. Lining up next to him was Tim Wilkerson, who in the semi’s had a great pass overshadowed by a major fire that we are very happy to say that Tim got out of just fine. Word is they had help from all over the pits to get the backup car running which in and of itself is beyond impressive. Huge props to the Levi/Ray & Shoup team, no amount of help would make it easy to get a car ready for a pas in that amount of time.
Unfortunately for Tim the win goes To Robert and the AAA team after being red lighted. 60th win of Hight’s career and 7th this season. Robert and the AAA team have been so dialed in that with 5 races left they are 81 points ahead in the season standings. Not to mention another double up for the nitro categories, with the Force camp looking very solid I highly doubt this’ll be the last time we see that.
5 Races Left in the countdown and Hight has a very comfortable 2225 points
Matt Hagan sits -81 but the Dodge Power Brokers team is more than capable of closing that gap.
Ron Capps -84
John Force -97
Bob Tasca III – 106
